ODBASE 2016 - The 15th International Conference on Ontologies, DataBases, and Applications of Semantics Part of the OnTheMove Federated Conferences & Workshops 25-26 October 2016, Rhodes, Greece

Website: http://www.otmconferences.org/index.php/conferences/odbase-2016

Proceedings will be published by Springer LNCS. Authors of selected outstanding papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for consideration for publication in a special issue of the Springer Journal on Data Semantics (JoDS).

  • Declan O’Sullivan - Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
  • Joseph Davis - The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia
  • Satya Sahoo - Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA

The conference on Ontologies, DataBases, and Applications of Semantics for Large Scale Information Systems (ODBASE’16) provides a forum on the use of ontologies and data semantics in novel applications. Of particular relevance to ODBASE are papers that bridge traditional boundaries between disciplines such as databases, social networks, mobile systems, artificial intelligence, information retrieval, and computational linguistics. We also encourage the submission of research and practical experience papers concerning scalability issues in ontology management, information integration, and information extraction, as well as papers that examine the information needs of various applications.

Given the 20th anniversary of CooPIS, ODBASE’16 also invites submissions on the application of semantics and semantic modelling to enable co-operation between information systems. This year, we would also welcome additional submissions on the challenge of achieving autonomic integration.

ODBASE’16 intends to draw a highly diverse body of researchers and practitioners by being part of the Federated conferences Event "On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems 2016 (OnTheMove'16)" that co-locates three conferences: ODBASE'16, C&TC'16 (International Symposium on Secure Virtual Infrastructures), and CoopIS'16 (International Conference on Cooperative Information Systems).

ODBASE 2016 will consider two categories of papers: research and experience. Research papers must contain novel, unpublished research results. Experience papers must describe performance of existing and real-world scalable systems; preference will be given to papers that describe software products or systems that are in use in the community and/or the industry.

Specific areas of interest to ODBASE’16 include but are not limited to:

Management of Semantically Expressive Information

  • Semantic data modeling
  • Semantic integration, including ontology matching, merging, etc.
  • Ontology engineering and metadata management
  • Ontology-based data management
  • Governance aspects such as workflows, roles and responsibilities in semantic information management

Large Scale and Complex Information Management and Analysis

  • Semantic indexing, search and query answering in large volumes of data
  • Annotation, extraction, summarization, and integration of heterogeneous data resources
  • Semantic data mining
  • Semantic social network analysis
  • Semantic services for big data
  • Semantic information extraction
  • Semantics in event-driven architectures

Applications, Evaluations, and Experiences of applying ontology and database techniques including but not limited to the following domains:

  • Semantic Web and Linked Data
  • Semantic Web and the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Crowdsourcing, human computation, and the People Web
  • Online Social Networks
  • Personalisation and Digital Content interaction
  • Hypertext, Multimedia, and Hypermedia
  • Enterprise-wide Information Systems
  • eCommerce, eScience, and Virtual Organizations
  • Ubiquitous and Mobile Information Systems
  • Information and Data Governance
  • Cloud Computing
  • Information Assurance and Security
  • Biomedical and Healthcare Domain

Conference Abstract Submission Deadline: June 28, 2016 Conference Paper Submission Deadline: July 14, 2016 Acceptance Notification: Aug 14, 2016 Camera Ready Due: Aug 30, 2016 Author Registration Due: Aug 30, 2016

Papers submitted to ODBASE’16 must not have been accepted for publication elsewhere or be under review for another workshop or conference.

All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. All papers will be refereed by at least three members of the program committee, and at least two will be experts from industry in the case of practice reports. All submissions must be in English.

Submissions must not exceed 18 pages in the final camera-ready paper style. Submissions must be laid out according to the final camera-ready formatting instructions and must be submitted in PDF format.

Paper submission site: http://otmconferences.org/index.php/paper-submission

The final proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag as LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science). Author instructions can be found at: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html

Authors of selected outstanding papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for consideration for publication in a special issue of the Springer Journal on Data Semantics (JoDS).

Failure to comply with the formatting instructions for submitted papers will lead to the outright rejection of the paper without review. Failure to commit to presentation at the conference automatically excludes a paper from the proceedings.
