Introduction
************
Ambient Intelligence is a vision of the future where we shall be surrounded by electronic
environments, sensitive and responsive to people. In the ambient intelligence view, devices work
in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities in an easy and natural way
using information and intelligence that is hidden in the network connecting these devices and in
the device itself.

In some sense Ambient Intelligence technologies combine concepts of ubiquitous computing and
intelligent systems putting humans in the centre of technological developments.
In general Ambient Intelligence implies Device Intelligence. In fact an interesting trend of
development regards distributed Ambient Intelligence. In this scenario the device capacity of elaborate
and extract sophisticated information or improve the general quality of the extracted information from the
environment is crucial.
In these fields of research a crucial role is played by multimedia information processing and in particular
by imaging technologies.
The MTDAI session is dedicated to research on the technologies used to improve the intelligence
capacity of multimedia devices. In particular the MTDAI deals with technologies related to Imaging,
Image Processing and Computer Vision.
The session is aims to bring together top researchers both from academia and industry to stimulate
research and create interdisciplinary collaboration links allowing the exploration of new frontiers
in the area of ambient and device intelligence.
The MTDAI will focus on recent developments in digital signal processing including evolutions
in audiovisual signal processing, analysis, coding and authentication, and retrieval techniques.
