The L3S is a research center founded in 2001 for basic and application-oriented research of new, forward-looking methods and technologies in the fields of knowledge , information and learning based in Hannover . The L3S serves as a cooperation center for interdisciplinary and inter-institutional projects in the field of Web Science , with members of the Leibniz Universität Hannover , the TU Braunschweig and other universities.

The L3S explores new, forward-looking methods and technologies that enable intelligent and seamless access to information over the Web. The total research volume amounts to over 6 million euros per year, with a large number of projects in the fields of Intelligent Access to Information , Next Generation Internet , E-Science and Web Governance .
